Couldn't be any easier to install. Hope I never have the opportunity to see how well it works in a real situation, but It sure looks like it would!

I put this one on a 2000 Tundra

The installation was very easy and it seems to be constructed just fine

Product was exactly as described. The installation was very easy and it seems to be constructed just fine. I am pleased with this purchase, it fit my Ford 2013 F-150 perfect and you do not even know it is there until you open the tailgate. Now I feel much more secure knowing that I have this extra deterrent against those who might think about stealing my lift gate.

After getting a tailgate stolen from one of our work vehicles. I have purchased this lock for two of our work vehicles (2006 and 2009 Chevrolet Silverado) and for my sons' 1998 and 1999 GMC Sonoma (S-10) stepside. The lock has fit all of these vehicles well. The fit on the Sonoma is a bit tighter, but it does not interfere with function. The lock fits a bit loose on the 2009 Silverado, but it does keep the tailgate from being removed.

Likes others have said the gold part in the picture seems to be plastic. It does give a piece of mind so hopefully it will work if it ever gets tested

Good lock, bad fit

Very well made lock. It does the job. Would have rated 5 stars but: I have an 03 Chevy 2500HD and this lock does not fit really well. It is just a hair too wide, and presses between the tailgate skin and the upright rail on bed, making it a little difficult to open the tailgate. If I had a perfect condition truck I would have returned as I don't know if this will cause damage in the future.

This lock will only stop a casual thief. It has a stainless steel sheet metal coating with a hard plastic core. A dedicated thief with the right tool could break it with little trouble.
